Backlinks are links from one website to a page on another website. Google and other major search engines consider backlinks “votes” for a specific page. Pages with a high number of backlinks tend to have high organic search engine rankings.
Backlinks help Google determine your website’s authority. When you receive a link from a website with a higher ranking than yours it improves your score. Websites that naturally have a higher ranking are Wikipedia, non-profit’s, and government websites.
Ways to obtain backlinks:
- Guest blogging
- Testimonials
- Donate to non-profit organizations that will include a link to your website
- Get interviewed by your local news
- Add your contact information to directories like Manta, Yelp, Expedia, and Trip Advisor
- Create an infographic that others will want to share. You can find lots of infographic examples on Canva.com.
